Project Runway – Season 11 Episode 6 – Recap – Senior Fling via Rickey.org
Here’s the recap for Season 11 Episode 6, “Senior Fling”, of Project Runway on Lifetime!
This episode’s challenge is all about timeless fashion! The challenge is to design an outfit for a customer of age. The teams were broken up into pairs and one trio and were assigned client/models and then they had to decide amongst themselves who would pair with which client. As it turned out, everyone found a match they liked, so we are off to a good start.
After a trip to mood to buy materials, the designers head back to the workroom to start building their creations. Once the designers get to work, we notice quickly that Tu and Amanda are out of their element. Patricia is struggling with this poncho-like thing she has made for her client that looks a mess. In the eleventh hour, Patricia decides to change her look ENTIRELY! (SAY WHAT?!)
Amanda is continuing to struggle through the challenge and keeps second-guessing her design. She needs to grow a backbone and get some confidence because she is STARTING to get on my nerves!
Stanley and Richard seem to be very confident and put together. The models come in for their final fitting and then head to the L’Oreal makeup room to get their hair and makeup did 
This Week’s Panel of Judges
Filling in for Zac Posen for this episode is American Fashion Designer, Rachel Roy. Our special guests judges are comedian, and Fashion police host Joan Rivers, and her daughter, Melissa Rivers.
As the models come down the runway, Layana’s garment seems to really work. Stanley’s navy jumpsuit looks AMAZING! Richard’s teal jersey-knit dress is pretty stellar as well! Patricia’s cloak is clearly TERRIBLE and Tu’s olive dress/coat/thing is fugly. Samantha’s leopard print and lime dress is pretty awesome as well! Daniel has redeemed himself with a two piece black on black suit, so he is back on track this week.
After the judging, Layana, Michelle and Patricia’s team is told they are safe. More interestingly though is when Heidi tells Michelle and Layana they were given her HIGHEST scores, but because Patricia received her LOWEST score, it brought the team down and just made them safe instead of in the top. This just reiterates how important it is to work AS A TEAM on each challenge.
The Top Designs:
Daniel and Samantha’s Designs
Samantha: The judges didn”t really LOVE the entire look, however, the pieces alone were relatively interesting. They thought it was a bit too racy for an older woman and the use of the bow around her waist and unique shoulder pad situation happening at the top just didn’t work.
Daniel: The judges were SOOOOO pleased with Daniel’s garment this week. Nina even says, “Welcome Back David!” This is good news, as he is one of our faves!
Stanley and Richard’s Designs
Stanley: Heidi likes his look overall, but it needs some correcting on the cut in the crotch and the length of the pant leg. Overall, he judges thinks she looks “age appropriate sexy.”
Richard: They like his look. They say its both easy and chic and sexy. Rachel says that this dress is the “most youthful out of any dress” she saw today.
The Bottom Designs:
Amanda and Benjamin’s Bottom Designs
Amanda: The judges hate the hemline. Heidi thinks it is very hippie and too flowy on the arms. Nina thinks it looks like it’s for a child.
Benjamin: Heidi doesn’t love the dress AT ALL! It’s to tight all around. Rachel says that there are too many things wrong with teh construction.
Tu and Kate’s Bottom Designs
Tu: The judges think it looks like it will fall apart if the belt is undone…AND THEY ARE CORRECT! Joan says he is no “f*ckin clue who he is designing for.” It is a terrible design.
Kate: Nina loves the fabric of the skirt. It’s joyful and vibrant. Heidi really likes her look too. Heidi also says Kate wouldn’t be in the bottom without Tu. She says it is ok because for the first time, she feels respected by her teammate.

Benjamin: FINALLY Ben is out! It took you people long enough. I am pleased. However, I do think in this challenge, other designers deserved to leave this episode!
